CABOT Creamery Cooperative Presents The 2012 Community Tour

The 2012 Community Tour <http://www.communitytour.coop/> , created by Cabot Creamery Cooperative and supporting sponsors, celebrates those who give their hearts, time and skills to strengthen communities. The two-month program kicks off on May 12th in Miami, Florida, and continues up the East Coast, following the route of the East Coast Greenway and culminating in Portland, Maine, on July 7th, the International Day of Cooperatives. The Tour features eight major weekend stops in key cities along the northerly route, including Miami, Charleston, Durham, Fredericksburg, Wilmington, New York City, Providence and Portland. Additionally, smaller weekday events will take place at stops along the route between the key cities. While events and activities will vary by market, the overall theme of cooperatives, community service and volunteerism will be the hallmark of each celebration.

Kicking off their initiative in Miami, The Cabot Community Tour has partnered with the Volvo Ocean Race Miami located at Bicentennial Park in the heart of Downtown Miami.  This festival full of entertainment will consist of sailing and extreme water sports activities, educational programs for children of all ages, interactive pavilions, 3- D Marine Cinema of the global race, live musical acts, water sports, a classic steamboat race, an antique auto show and more.  In the center of all this excitement, The Cabot Community Tour will host a Cabot Village that will include cooking and cheese-making demonstrations, a photo booth, a milk truck from the Florida Dairy Farmers and other activities designed to bring families and friends together to celebrate the spirit of community. Guests will also gather as 80 bikers kick off their 2,300 mile journey up the East Coast Greenway, the traffic-free path linking cities from Florida to Maine.

WHEN: Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 10 AM – 7 PM

WHERE: Bicentennial Park in Downtown Miami

WHY: The farm-family owners of Cabot Creamery Cooperative <http://www.cabotcheese.coop/> are proud of their cooperative roots. Founded in 1919, our farmers have always been an integral part of the communities they serve, supporting the places where they live and do business. The Community Tour coincides with the 2012 International Year of Cooperative <http://www.2012.coop/> s and is designed both to enable Cabot and its partners to promote the virtues of volunteerism—and to support the communities in which we live on a far greater scale. By honoring those who give selflessly to their communities, the 2012 Community Tour aims to encourage others to do the same.
