Miami Queer Collective Masisi Wins First U.S. Grant from Studio Monkey Shoulder

Masisi, a pioneering queer creative collective in Miami, has made history as the first U.S. recipient of the Studio Monkey Shoulder grant, earning $12,000 to support its initiatives.

Launched in 2023 by Monkey Shoulder Whisky and DJ Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM, Studio Monkey Shoulder aims to uplift grassroots music communities globally. The initiative has allocated a total of $60,000 across various vibrant musical cities, including locations in the UK, Taiwan, Nigeria, and India.

Focusing on Miami’s Black queer Caribbean culture, Masisi is redefining community boundaries through nightlife events that reclaim identities and sexualities. The grant will help establish Masisi Radio, an independent digital station dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices in Miami’s artistic landscape. Listeners can tune in at Masisi Radio Live https://worldwidefm.net/episode/masisi-radio-live-from-miami.

Monkey Shoulder Whisky, known for its commitment to grassroots movements, has been actively involved in Miami’s cultural scene, participating in events like Miami Art Week and Disco Nap parties. Through its partnership with Worldwide FM, Masisi Radio is set to provide an inclusive platform for artists to express themselves freely.
