GardenMusic Festival Brings Beautiful Sights and Sounds to Fairchild Garden @FairchildGarden

Chamber music has been described as “music of friends” – an intimate performance with just a few instruments in celebration of sound. From January 6 – 19, 2014, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will serve as a beautiful backdrop to the melodies of pianos, violins, guitars, and more developed by the talented musicians of the Sixth Floor Trio. Experience the power and beauty of chamber music at Fairchild’s second GardenMusic Festival.

The festival’s many musical programs were developed by Sixth Floor Trio members Teddy Abrams, Harrison Hollingsworth, and Johnny Teyssier. Graduates of the Curtis Institute of Music, the trio specializes in chamber music and has performed across the country. Abrams will serve as this year’s conductor for the GardenMusic Festival.

Board of Trustees Vice President Jennifer Buttrick launched the GardenMusic Festival in 2012 to bring music to the Garden and the community. The inaugural event was brimming with all types of musical celebrations. Four full concerts in addition to many short-form concerts and open rehearsals were played, and a children’s concert with a unique instrument petting zoo filled the entire room. Two original works commissioned specifically for the festival debuted. Actors from the City Theatre and choreographers from Miami Contemporary Dance Company joined the musicians for a staged production of Stravinsky’s “Soldier’s Tale.” University of Miami music students were treated to a masterclass. It wouldn’t have been complete without a surprise concert by the Sixth Floor Trio as part of Random Acts of Culture for a party in Matheson Hammock Park. The musicians brought all facets of the community together, proving that music truly does connect people. The 2014 festival promises to be even bigger with a multitude of performances spanning two weeks.
