Premier Guide Miami was on the scene. Here is what we witnessed.
Yonder Mountain String Band brought their progressive bluegrass energy to Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale on February 12, 2010, for a two-set show that ran well past midnight. The Colorado quartet — Jeff Austin, Adam Aijala, Dave Johnston, and Ben Kaufmann — are among the finest acoustic improvisers working in any genre, and the Revolution Live crowd knew exactly what they were in for.
The setlist ranged from high-velocity bluegrass breakdowns to slow, meditative jams that stretched the boundaries of what acoustic instruments can do in a live setting. "Steep Grade, Sharp Curves," "Left Me in a Hole," "Ragtime Annie," and extended versions of fan favorites had the room in a state of sustained euphoria. The interplay between Austin's mandolin and Aijala's guitar was the kind of thing that reminds you why live music exists.
Revolution Live is an ideal room for Yonder Mountain — the intimacy of the venue puts the audience close enough to watch the musicians' hands, which with this band is half the show. The February 12 performance was one of the strongest of their South Florida run.
Play Miami covers the city's live music, nightlife, and cultural events — the moments that make South Florida worth showing up for.

Olivia Rodrigo plays two nights. Shakira closes the month at Kaseya. Miami Book Fair takes over Wolfson Campus. And Art Week is three weeks out — which means the reservation windows are already closing. Here is what we are watching.
