Canadian actor Will Arnett — best known for Arrested Development — sat down with Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton ahead of the third episode of his new FOX series Running Wilde, in which he stars as Steve Wilde, a self-centered billionaire reunited with his teenage sweetheart. Premier Guide Miami sat down to find out what that means — and what comes next.
FOX's Running Wilde stars Will Arnett as Steve Wilde, a self-centered billionaire reunited with his teenage sweetheart Emmy Kadubic (Keri Russell) — an environmental activist working with rainforest tribes — along with her boyfriend Andy (David Cross) and daughter Puddle (Stefania LaVie Owen). Emmy is faced with the responsibility of teaching Steve to be more selfless and to behave like a grown-up.
In the show's third episode, "Oil & Water," Steve vows to quit his job at Wilde Oil to impress Emmy, while Puddle gets unusual help on her science fair project and Fa'ad gets locked in a vodka cellar. Paul Shaffer of Late Show with David Letterman guest-stars.
Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton spoke with Will Arnett about his triple role on the series.
On similarities with Steve Wilde — Daedrian McNaughton: Are there any similarities between Steve Wilde and Will Arnett?
Will Arnett: I don't know how many real similarities there are. I think that if anything there is a kind of childishness about Steve that I probably have. I am sure there are people who think that I can probably grow up or I don't take a lot of things that seriously. In that way Steve and I are very similar. I approach each day wanting it to be a fun experience as much as I can. Steve has a lot more options at his disposal because he is an insane billionaire — in that way we are alike.
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
On multi-tasking — Daedrian McNaughton: In Running Wilde you are an actor, co-writer, and executive producer. Which do you enjoy the most?
Will Arnett: I am new to the other two. I am probably most comfortable being an actor, but I am finding it to be mentally interesting. Playing the roles of writer and producer is turning out to be a tremendous amount of work, but it is very gratifying. What you end up doing — you can't believe it — but you are more invested in the project, which makes you very defensive and protective. You feel like, "Wow, this is my baby." I am finding that I am really invested in this.
On growing up — Daedrian McNaughton: Will Steve Wilde ever grow up?
Will Arnett: I don't know if he will ever fully grow up. Maybe he will — he has all the dressings of it. I think he will, but I think he will always be a kid at heart.
Running Wilde airs Tuesdays at 9:30/8:30c on FOX.
