URWERK UR-1001 Amadeus: Eternity Carved in Titanium

Geneva, August 25, 2026 — URWERK has unveiled the UR-1001 Amadeus, a singular pocket watch within the Maison’s “Special Projects” collection. It is not merely a timepiece. It is a mechanical vision of time in its entirety — counting seconds, minutes, hours, days and nights, months, years, centuries, and even millennia — housed in a hand-engraved titanium case that took master engraver Florian Güllert nearly three months and approximately 500 hours to complete.
The UR-1001 occupies a place of its own within URWERK’s catalog. Conceived as a true Zeit Device, it does not merely measure time — it maps it. The front of the watch presents satellite hours with retrograde minutes, a satellite annual calendar that automatically accounts for months of 28, 30, or 31 days, a hand-painted day/night disc, and a 39-hour power-reserve indicator. The caseback tells a story on an entirely different scale: an “Oil Change” service indicator cycling over five years, a 100-year mechanical odometer, and a linear indicator spanning 1,000 years.
“When we understood that days and months could be displayed using the same satellite concept as our hours and minutes, I immediately dreamed of a wristwatch with this dual indication. But at the design stage, the two carousels were touching. Not enough space. It’s out of this dead end that the idea of the UR-1001 was born.”
The case itself is a work of art. Güllert, born in Munich and trained as a gunsmith in Ferlach, Austria, has spent decades refining the art of hand engraving across firearms, jewelry, and — since 2004 — watchmaking. For the Amadeus, he pushed Baroque inspiration to its absolute limit: arabesques emerge from the titanium as though the material itself generated them, backgrounds are textured, dotted, satin-brushed or matte depending on desired light effects, and every edge is honed with a file until the boundary between case and decoration disappears entirely.
“We entrusted Florian with an UR-1001 featuring a raw titanium case, as we wanted the exterior to convey the same sense of extravagance embodied in the movement. The nickname ‘Amadeus’ came from the sheer lavishness of the timepiece once it was completed. Mozart was an avant-gardist, a brilliant madman. I hope our creation epitomizes that spirit.”
At its heart beats the Calibre UR-10.01 — 51 jewels, Swiss lever escapement, 4 Hz frequency, 39-hour power reserve, unidirectional rotor. The retrograde minutes spring alone measures 174.4 mm in length, its great span ensuring a flat torque curve across the full arc. Case dimensions: 106 × 62 × 23 mm, tested to 3 ATM. The UR-1001 Amadeus is a unique piece — one custodian at a time.
