Sarah McCarthy said it plainly: "Comedy is the most honest thing I do. Everything else you can dress up or spin. When you're standing alone on a stage tr…" — and Premier Guide Miami was in the room when it happened.
Sarah McCarthy has built her career on a sharp wit and an unflinching willingness to go to places other comedians won't. Her stand-up is personal, pointed, and consistently funny — a combination that has earned her a devoted following.
Premier Guide Miami spoke with her about the craft of comedy and what drives her to keep pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable on stage.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: What drew you to stand-up comedy specifically?
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
SARAH McCARTHY: Comedy is the most honest thing I do. Everything else you can dress up or spin. When you're standing alone on a stage trying to make people laugh, there's nowhere to hide.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: How do you handle material that makes people uncomfortable?
SARAH McCARTHY: That discomfort is usually where the truth lives. I'm not trying to shock anyone. I'm trying to say the thing everyone is already thinking but won't say out loud. That's the job.
