Royal Caribbean Is Bringing "The SpongeBob Musical" to Sea — on Hero of the Seas, Sailing from Miami
Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
Royal Caribbean has announced that "The SpongeBob Musical" — the first-ever at-sea production inspired by the Tony Award-nominated Broadway show — will headline entertainment on Hero of the Seas, the fourth Icon Class ship, when it sets sail from Miami in August 2027.
The production will transform the beloved Nickelodeon animated series into a reimagined full-scale show for the whole family, staged in the Royal Theater. Filled with unexpected twists, larger-than-life characters, hit songs, and the central theme of friendship, the adventure follows SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom crew as they race to save their town from total destruction.
"'The SpongeBob Musical' delivers on that by bringing generations together through a story families know and love, while showcasing the creativity, cutting-edge technology and world-class production that can only be experienced on a Royal Caribbean vacation."
Beyond the theater, Hero of the Seas is stacked across eight neighborhoods with experiences that include Crown's Edge — part skywalk, part zip line suspended 154 feet above the ocean — and Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea. Nine pools include the new Coconut Cove and the adults-only Hideaway, which features two pools and the largest swim-up bar at sea.
Family accommodations include the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse, complete with a rooftop terrace, whirlpool, and a two-deck teen space. Hero will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with every voyage stopping at Royal Caribbean's top-rated Perfect Day CocoCay in The Bahamas. Western Caribbean routes visit Cozumel and Roatan; Eastern Caribbean routes call on Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
