Premier Guide Miami was on the scene. Here is what we witnessed.
Roger Waters brought his monumental staging of The Wall to BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise for two sold-out nights on November 13 and 14, 2010. The second night had been added due to overwhelming demand — and both shows were among the most extraordinary concert experiences South Florida had ever witnessed.
The Wall had been performed live in its entirety just 31 times before this tour — including Pink Floyd's original 1980–81 tour and Waters's landmark 1990 staging at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, which drew nearly half a million fans to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall. The 2010 tour was the first time the album had been performed in its entirety in nearly 30 years, and the production was state-of-the-art: a massive wall constructed across the stage during the performance, projection mapping, theatrical staging, and a full band delivering the album with the weight and precision it demands.
"In the Flesh?," "Another Brick in the Wall," "Comfortably Numb," "Run Like Hell," and "Outside the Wall" — the complete arc of the album, performed in sequence, with the wall rising and falling as the narrative demanded. The BankAtlantic Center crowd was silent when silence was required and explosive when the music demanded it.
The Wall tour would go on to become one of the highest-grossing concert tours in history. The Sunrise shows were among the finest nights of live music South Florida has ever hosted.
