Pinecrest's Zombie Run Is the Best Halloween Event You're Not Talking About
The annual 5K obstacle run through Pinecrest Gardens returns with full zombie cast, mud pits, and the kind of organized chaos that makes October worth it.
Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
The Pinecrest Zombie Run is one of those South Florida events that locals who know about it treat as a non-negotiable October tradition. The annual 5K obstacle course through Pinecrest Gardens features a full cast of zombie actors, mud obstacles, and the kind of theatrical commitment to the Halloween concept that most haunted attractions only approximate.
The format is simple: runners carry flags, zombies try to take them. Complete the course with at least one flag intact and you've survived. The obstacles — mud pits, crawl tunnels, climbing walls — are designed to slow you down enough for the zombies to catch up. The zombie actors are trained, costumed, and genuinely committed to the bit.
Registration is open at pinecrest-fl.gov. The event sells out. Costumes are encouraged but not required — though the zombie actors will find you more interesting if you're dressed for the occasion.
