Olivia Longott on Love and Hip Hop: "As Many No's as You Hear, There Will Be That One Yes That Makes All Those No's Worthwhile"
Former G-Unit first lady Olivia Longott — who left 50 Cent's label in 2007, spent time in Europe regrouping, and is now back with a new EP and a starring role on VH1's new reality series Love and Hip Hop (premiering March 14 at 10 p.m.) — spoke with Premier Guide Miami's Judith Wallace about her church roots, her first deal with Clive Davis at J Records at age 18, why she wanted to start completely fresh without any G-Unit material, her upcoming album Show the World (produced by Missy Elliott, Brian Michael Cox, Sean Kingston, and Rockwilder), and what sets her apart from every other artist: her personality.

Premier Guide Miami sat down to find out what that means — and what comes next.
Former G-Unit first lady Olivia Longott — who left 50 Cent's label in 2007, spent time in Europe regrouping, and is now back with a new EP and a starring role on VH1's new reality series Love and Hip Hop (premiering March 14 at 10 p.m.) — spoke with Premier Guide Miami about her journey from church choir to the music industry.
On her church roots and first deal: "I was brought up in the church. I was a member of the choir since I was seven years old. When I first sang for Clive Davis, I sang His Eyes Was on the Sparrow and that's how I got my first deal at J Records. I was still all about God. I am the first artist signed to J Records. I was 18 years old at the time. I'm gonna do whatever Clive says; I'm just happy to sing."
On her relationship with 50 Cent: "Everything is fine. 50 Cent and I are cool. We have seen each other and we have spoken, so don't listen to any of the rumors."
On her new music and Love and Hip Hop: "The new music involves the EP which is Love and Hip-Hop — eight songs as a follow-up to the VH1 show, all love songs. I did a remake of Rayquan's song called Love Is. The follow-up album will be out in the summer and it's called Show the World. I did not put any artists on this album because I wanted you to get what Olivia has to offer. Some of the producers involved are Missy Elliott, Brian Michael Cox, Sean Kingston, and Rockwilder. I just wanted to start afresh so that I can give you the real R&B sound that I have always wanted to."
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
On Love and Hip Hop: "I was a little skeptical at first. Mona Scott, who is the executive producer, has always been a good friend of mine. Originally the show was supposed to be Jim and Chrissy's show about their family. They brought me in as the best friend because I knew Jim Jones for years. Then they changed it and expressed that if they add me to the show, they want to showcase the whole dynamic of women in the business. You will see the ups and downs, partying with my friends, you will see my family — basically all my shenanigans. If I was not in it I would still watch."
On what sets her apart: "My personality. A lot of people do not know that I am funny — they look at me and think that I am serious, but no, I will have you laughing all day for no particular reason."
On advice for young people: "As many no's that you hear, there will be that one yes that will make all those no's worthwhile."
