Three nights. Three sold-out-worthy programs. New World Symphony's 2026–27 Arsht Series brings the Frank Gehry-trained ensemble to Knight Concert Hall for performances that don't happen twice — Mozart's final work, a live-to-film Disney classic, and Rachmaninoff's most beloved symphony.
The Series
New World Symphony is Miami's training orchestra — but that description undersells what it actually is. Founded by Michael Tilson Thomas, NWS has spent four decades producing some of the finest young musicians in the world, performing in a building designed by Frank Gehry that is itself a reason to go. The Arsht Series brings three of those performances to Knight Concert Hall, one of the best rooms in South Florida for orchestral music.
November 14 — Mozart's Requiem
Stephanie Childress conducts New World Symphony and the Master Chorale of South Florida (Brett Karlin, chorus master) in Mozart's unfinished final work. The program opens with Vaughan Williams' Toward the Unknown Region before the Requiem — a pairing that earns its weight. Note: no ticket exchanges are permitted into this performance.
January 9 — Disney's Fantasia in Concert
Anthony Parnther conducts this live-to-film concert presenting Disney's hand-drawn musical anthology on a large screen while New World Symphony performs the score live. The combination of the film's visual imagination and a live orchestra in the room is genuinely different from watching it at home. Note: no ticket exchanges are permitted into this performance.
February 13 — Rachmaninoff 2
Leonard Slatkin conducts, with world-renowned cellist Steven Isserlis performing the final concerto of William Walton — a rarely heard masterpiece. NWS Conducting Fellow Ziwei Ma also appears on the program. The evening builds to the lively tarantella finale of Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony, one of the most satisfying endings in the orchestral repertoire. Program: Clyne Masquerade; Walton Cello Concerto; Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2.
Three one-night-only concerts. The kind of programming that makes you glad you live here.
