MOCA Sunday Stories: Firebird by Misty Copeland — Free Family Storytime on November 1
A picture book about a girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina. A cardboard bird with colorful wings. A free Sunday morning at MOCA. This is what community arts programming looks like when it's done right.
Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
On Sunday, November 1st at 10:30 AM, the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami hosts MOCA Sunday Stories — a free monthly program for toddlers and families featuring storytime followed by a hands-on early childhood art project.
This month's inspiration is Firebird by Misty Copeland, the story of a young girl inspired to become a ballerina. After storytime, kids bring their own bird to life on a pre-cut cardboard shape with colorful wings. Each finished bird gets a string so it can be hung and displayed — wings outstretched — as a reminder that they too can take flight.
Sponsored by the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency, MOCA Sunday Stories engages toddlers in reading, motor skill development, and socialization. It is also a beautiful way for children to bond with parents or guardians as they create together.
The program is free and first come, first served. Registration does not guarantee a seat. MOCA is located at 770 NE 125th Street, North Miami, FL 33161. Visit mocanomi.org for details.
