Bravo's Real Housewives of Washington D.C. Premier Guide Miami sat down to find out what that means — and what comes next.
Bravo's Real Housewives of Washington D.C. star Mary Schmidt Amons is an aspiring actress, designer, philanthropist, the mother of five children, and the granddaughter of the legendary TV and radio personality Arthur Godfrey. The Bravo finale documented the aftermath of President Obama's first White House State Dinner and the media frenzy surrounding whether Michaele and Tareq Salahi had been officially invited.
On her grandfather Arthur Godfrey and Miami: "My grandfather has a longtime love of Miami Beach. He was one of the first people on the radio to broadcast live through telephone wires up the east coast from Miami Beach. He had part ownership in The Kenilworth By-the-Sea and would often conduct his show on the pool deck. On the putting green of the hotel, he landed a helicopter and did a live demonstration — simulcasting radio and television at the same time. I was amazed at that."
On her visits to Miami: "I love Miami. I love to shop at Bal Harbour Shops. I usually stay by South Beach — I like Eden Roc and the Shore Club."
On being called a Supermom: "I wouldn't call myself a Supermom; I would call myself a busy mom. I am very committed to my children, my charity work, and just to balance everything in my life. Having five children is a challenge to keep it all together and to make sure your little souls are taken care of physically, mentally, and emotionally. I am just trying to do the best I can as a mom, giving back to the community and taking care of my family as best as I can."
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
On Elizabeth Hasselbeck as inspiration: "Elizabeth Hasselbeck was a big inspiration to me because she started out in reality television and has really succeeded. Most people don't even realize she was from Survivor — that is how she started. I look up to her greatly as someone who made their way using reality television to springboard into different things."
On breast cancer and Cancer Schmancer: "I am a big advocate of breast cancer awareness. I am donating to Cancer Schmancer — an organization started by my friend Fran Drescher, a 10-year uterine cancer survivor. Her whole campaign is to bring early awareness to the public. Working with Fran Drescher has been incredibly inspiring. She is one amazing woman using her celebrity to change the world and save lives."
On the Salahis: "I wouldn't call it a relationship. The Salahis are on their own path. I wish them all the best. I believe in Karma and I believe what you give you will receive."
On her famous biometric fingerprint closet lock: "No, it all conveys with the house — but I think I might take my lock with me, because I threw away the box and I don't know how to reprogram it. I think I will take it with me and put a regular lock on my closet."
