Malcolm-Jamal Warner on Joining Community: "I Feel Like I Owe Yvette a Commission Check"
Emmy-nominated actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner — best known as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show — joined the cast of NBC's critically acclaimed comedy Community as Andre, the love interest and ex-husband of Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), in the episode "Asian Population Studies" (airdate January 20, 2011). Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton spoke with Warner about the warm off-camera rapport of the cast, the chilly reception Andre gets from the study group, and why he was tight-lipped on future projects — including dispelling National Enquirer rumors about an engagement to live-in girlfriend Regina King. Warner also continues to earn accolades as a poet and bass player in his jazz-funk band Miles Long.

Emmy-nominated actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner — best known as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show — joined the cast of NBC's comedy series Community as Andre, the love interest and ex-husband of Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown). The episode "Asian Population Studies" aired January 20, 2011. Annie (Alison Brie) returns from spring break to find her crush "Rich" (Greg Cromer) has enrolled at Greendale, sparking a debate about adding new study group members, while Shirley's ex-husband Andre is back in the picture with big news. Joel McHale, Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, and Ken Jeong also star. John Oliver reprises his role as Professor Duncan.
On joining the cast after Yvette Nicole Brown campaigned for him: "Well, I know — I feel like I owe Yvette a commission check. No, it's actually been a good time because I watched the show and all the actors have such a great rapport off camera that it's a really cool place to come to work."
On the reunion between Andre and Shirley: "You can guarantee that Andre is not necessarily very welcomed by the rest of the gang."

On rumors of an engagement to Regina King: "No, unfortunately not. There was a rumor that the National Enquirer and Yahoo.com kind of ran away with. But that was something that was basically very definitively rumored."
Warner continues to achieve success in acting and directing, but also receives accolades as a poet and bass player in his jazz-funk band Miles Long. The band has performed at several major jazz festivals including the Playboy Jazz Festival and at the historic Apollo Theater. Miles Long has two CDs: The Miles Long Mix Tape and Love and Other Social Issues.
