Lady Gaga brought her Monster Ball Tour to the American Airlines Arena in Miami — and Premier Guide Miami was in the room. By Daedrian McNaughton.
Lady Gaga sells out around the globe with her 2010 Monster Ball Tour — and now announces 2011 North American dates. South Florida gets two dates: April 13th, 2011 at American Airlines Arena in Miami.
There is no doubt that Lady Gaga has made a name for herself and created little monsters in both the young and the old. The American Airlines Arena was filled with a mixed crowd of fans from 6 to 69, all channeling Gaga in some fashion — platform boots, green and pink wigs were everywhere.
The concert was a bit delayed, but when she entered the stage she made up for her tardiness immediately. Each song performed erased any memory of the wait. Her frame was a lot smaller than expected. This petite artist walked on stage and the entire arena was ablaze with screams.
She knows how to entertain and she puts on a show for her little monsters. From outrageous stage costumes and designs to full-on theatrics — she did it all. The production was immersive, relentless, and completely her own.
As many Americans struggle with self-acceptance and self-confidence, the international singing superstar provides an escape through entertainment — and sends a message that helps ease a lot of pain for young people today. Her message for the night was simple: be yourself. The song of acceptance was "Born This Way," which gained favor from her most loyal fans and from members of the gay community alike. Some audience members described her performance as Elton John–Madonna-esque.
Not so long ago the world knew nothing of Lady Gaga. Now she has taken over the airwaves with the hottest music in the clubs, an extreme and at times radical fashion sense, and a spot on the Forbes list as one of the world's most powerful people. But before powerhouse status, Gaga was a Miami regular — with intimate concerts at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel and on various Florida stages.
This was our first time seeing her perform live, and as expected she delivered. Her performance was real and engaging — no lip-synching, as she reminded the audience herself. She worked hard at her choreography, was extremely active on stage, and made several commentaries throughout the concert.
The PGM Edit
Gaga continues to charm fans with her infectious style and music. She will be embedded into America's culture as one of the best entertainers of all time.
