Julian Chang said it plainly: "Miami women are confident. They know what they want to wear and how they want to feel. My job is to give them something …" — and Premier Guide Miami was in the room when it happened.
Julian Chang has carved out a distinctive niche in the Miami fashion landscape with designs that celebrate the confident, sun-drenched lifestyle of South Florida women. His collections are known for their vibrant colors, flattering silhouettes, and resort-ready sensibility.
Premier Guide Miami spoke with the designer about his creative process and what makes Miami a unique environment for building a fashion brand.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: How would you describe the Miami woman you design for?
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
JULIAN CHANG: Miami women are confident. They know what they want to wear and how they want to feel. My job is to give them something that matches that energy — something that's beautiful but also real, that works at a lunch and a cocktail party and on the beach.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: What makes building a fashion brand in Miami different from doing it in New York or Los Angeles?
JULIAN CHANG: The lifestyle here is the brand. You can't separate them. In New York fashion is about aspiration. In Miami it's about living. That's a very different starting point, and I think it gives us something the other cities can't replicate.
