Premier Guide Miami was on the scene. Here is what we witnessed.
John Mayer brought his Battle Studies World Tour to BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise on February 4, 2010, with Michael Franti & Spearhead opening. The pairing was inspired — Franti's conscious soul and reggae-inflected energy warming up a crowd that was ready for a full night of live music.
Franti delivered a set that was as much a communal experience as a concert — the kind of performance where the audience becomes part of the show. By the time Mayer took the stage, the room was already alive.
Mayer's set drew from across his catalog — Battle Studies , Continuum , and Room for Squares — with extended guitar passages that reminded the arena why he remains one of the most technically gifted guitarists of his generation. "Gravity," "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," "Waiting on the World to Change," and "Your Body Is a Wonderland" were among the highlights, each delivered with the kind of precision and feeling that makes a large arena feel intimate.
Play Miami covers the city's live music, nightlife, and cultural events — the moments that make South Florida worth showing up for.
The BankAtlantic Center show was one of the strongest arena performances of the early 2010 South Florida concert season — a reminder that Mayer's live show has always been the best argument for his talent.
