Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman on Fringe: "Everyone Dreams — Our Concern Was Getting the Audience Hooked Emotionally"
Fringe executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman — the creative team behind FOX's acclaimed science fiction series created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci — spoke with Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton about the show's alternate universe concept, their favorite episodes ("Peter," "August," "White Tulip," and the upcoming "Entrada" and "Marionette"), and why they call every episode "our babies." Fringe follows an FBI Fringe Division team in Boston investigating unexplained occurrences tied to a parallel universe.

Fringe is an American science fiction television series created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci. The series follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation "Fringe Division" team based in Boston, Massachusetts under the supervision of Homeland Security. The team uses unorthodox "fringe" science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate a series of unexplained, often ghastly occurrences related to mysteries surrounding a parallel universe.
On the alternate universe concept — Jeff Pinkner: "I don't think we had reservations about how it would be received because it's not a hard concept to grasp. Everyone dreams and dreaming is just another reality. People believe in heaven and hell, which is just another reality. The notion of an alternate universe is sort of in human consciousness in all different ways. Our concern was doing it in such a fashion that the audience would get hooked emotionally and making it an emotional story and not just an abstract, conceptual one."
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
On their favorite episodes — J.H. Wyman: "We like all our babies but I think we feel particularly close to 'Peter,' 'August,' 'White Tulip.'" Jeff Pinkner: "I think our season premiere this year was pretty special for us. The episode 'Entrada,' which is about to come on the air, was a culmination of a lot of things that we had been working on for quite a while. And the episode that airs right after that one is pretty fantastic as well — it's called 'Marionette,' because it's one of our most cinematic."
The "Entrada" episode of Fringe aired Thursday, December 2, 2010 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Peter grapples with the aftermath of recent events as Olivia desperately searches for an ally, while the Fringe Team discovers a critical device that communicates between universes.
