Hayes MacArthur on Perfect Couples: "Contents Under Pressure — That's Where We Get a Lot of the Comedy From"
Hayes MacArthur — who plays Rex, a reformed party guy who has channeled his jock energy into a competitive drive to be the ideal mate on NBC's new romantic comedy Perfect Couples (Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET) — spoke with Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton about what sets the show apart from typical couple comedies, why the couples are partners rather than adversaries, how meddling in each other's business drives the humor, and his Valentine's Day take: with a newborn at home and roses jumping from $30 to $80 a dozen, he calls it what it is — price gouging. The show is produced by Universal Media Studios and created by Jon Pollack (30 Rock) and Scott Silveri (Friends), directed by Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld).

On what to expect from Perfect Couples: "Each episode deals with different thematic elements of relationships. Jealousy is something that we explore tomorrow night. What to look forward to in the future is seeing, as we get to know the characters, how they each deal differently with things that happen in their lives and how they all medal in each other's business — that's really where we get a lot of the fun."
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
On the dynamic between the couples: "It's not like a bunch of guys repenting their partners and girls trying to get away from them. The couples are actually partners in the show and they're best friends. And when they all medal in each other's business, it's all coming from good intentions. You can't choose your family — but in some ways you can't choose your friends either. If your best friend is married to a girl, you're with that girl all the time. Contents under pressure — that's where we get a lot of the comedy from."
On Valentine's Day with a newborn at home: "We just know that there's an inflated price of flowers. Roses are — look, what's really $30 the rest of the year, a dozen roses now becomes $80. It's gouging. Price gouging."
