Eva Longoria said it plainly: "I used to be a seat filler almost 12 years ago, and I wanted to get in the building to see the stars and to see people l…" — and Premier Guide Miami was in the room when it happened.
The NCLR Alma Awards — a one-hour prime time special — aired on NBC Friday, September 16 from 8:00–9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The actual awards ceremony was held Saturday, September 10 in Santa Monica. Eva Longoria, a Golden Globe nominee, Screen Actors Guild Award winner, and ALMA Award winner best known for playing Gabrielle Solis on ABC's Desperate Housewives, served as co-executive producer and co-host. She spoke with Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton and Kamilah Wallace.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Which do you find more stressful, hosting the Almas or the Emmys?
EVA LONGORIA: Hosting the Almas. There's not a lot to the Emmys — you just walk the red carpet. I produce and I wear different hats at the Almas, so it's definitely more stressful.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Will you be walking the red carpet?
EVA LONGORIA: Yes, of course.
Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Whose designs will you be rocking this year?
EVA LONGORIA: We have the known ones like Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta, and then the lesser known — Esteban Cortazar and Angel Sanchez. I used to do about 16 changes; this year I'm only going to do about six or seven. We like to use the platform of this stage to promote Latino designers and up-and-coming designers that we may not have heard of. It's just a great opportunity for us to showcase Latinos in fashion as well.
PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: You used to be a seat filler at these events. Can you talk about what it means to come full circle as co-executive producer and co-host?
EVA LONGORIA: I used to be a seat filler almost 12 years ago, and I wanted to get in the building to see the stars and to see people like me reflected on that stage. To come full circle with being an executive producer and co-host means a lot to me because there aren't any other platforms that recognize positive images of Latinos in television, music and film. I'm so proud to be a part of the Alma Awards.
