Hard Rock Live in Hollywood has hosted some of the most memorable nights in South Florida's concert history. Earth, Wind & Fire added another one to the list.
Hard Rock Live in Hollywood was electric on the night of July 24 as the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour brought two of soul music's most enduring acts under one roof. Earth, Wind & Fire opened with a seven-song set that felt less like a warm-up and more like a headlining performance in miniature, while Lionel Richie closed the evening with a 16-song retrospective that spanned five decades of pop, soul, and R&B royalty. Earth, Wind & Fire wasted no time. "Shining Star" ignited the room immediately, the horn section cutting through the air with the kind of precision that only comes from decades of playing together. "Sing a Song" and a buoyant cover of the Beatles' "Got to Get You Into My Life" kept the energy climbing before "Fantasy," "Boogie Wonderland," "Let's Groove," and "September" brought the crowd to a full roar. Seven songs, zero filler. Lionel Richie took the stage to a standing ovation and never let the room settle. He opened with "Hello," the piano ballad landing with the weight of a song that has meant something to people for over 40 years, then pivoted immediately into the uptempo "Running With the Night." The Commodores catalog arrived in waves — "Easy," "Sail On," "Three Times a Lady," "Fancy Dancer / Sweet Love / Lady (You Bring Me Up)," and "Brick House" — each one greeted like a reunion with an old friend. The emotional peak of the night came mid-set with "Lady," performed as a virtual duet with the late Kenny Rogers, and "Endless Love," the Diana Ross duet rendered solo with a tenderness that silenced the room. "Dancing on the Ceiling" arrived with a Van Halen "Jump" interlude that drew a roar of surprise and delight, and "We Are the World" turned the arena into a singalong. The encore, "All Night Long (All Night)," sent everyone home on a high that was impossible to argue with. The Sing a Song All Night Long Tour continues across North America through the fall.
