Chris D'Elia said it plainly: "Nothing makes me happier than working with friends. It's much more fun just to work with somebody that you have a shorth…" — and Premier Guide Miami was in the room when it happened.

Chris D'Elia stars in the NBC multi-camera comedy Whitney as Alex, an easygoing, smart guy who sold his Internet company and is happily unmarried to his longtime girlfriend, Whitney (Whitney Cummings). Whitney airs Thursdays 9:30–10:00 p.m. ET on NBC. He spoke with Premier Guide Miami's Daedrian McNaughton.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Why did you sign on to do the show with her?

CHRIS D'ELIA: She wrote it for me in mind and I've been friends with Whitney for like five years. We came up doing standup together. Nothing makes me happier than working with friends, so that's just a no-brainer to me. It's much more fun just to work with somebody that you have a shorthand with and you can kind of goof around with. Otherwise you're just actors, two actors getting to know each other and that's kind of a thing that takes some time. And I don't know, I just wanted to do it.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: What were you most impressed with about Whitney?

CHRIS D'ELIA: I've known her for about five years now and just reading the script and how she came off the page and how much it was her — that was one of the things that got me excited about doing the project.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Describe your character's relationship with Whitney's character.

CHRIS D'ELIA: Whitney and I aren't boyfriend and girlfriend in real life but it's kind of how our relationship is. This is all a master plan by her. I think it's just how we are. We've done the road together and we've spent a lot of time together, and on camera it's pretty much our relationship in real life — although minus the fact that we're boyfriend and girlfriend. Whitney can come off as the guy in the relationship, and that's not okay really in the sitcom. Because she needs to be her and she needs to be a girl, and she needs a guy who is going to be a good balance — okay look, yes that's fine Whitney, you're very opinionated, but I wear the pants.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Will Alex cheat on Whitney?

Love Miami

Love Miami covers the city's conversations — the interviews, the creative voices, the tastemakers and innovators who define South Florida's cultural identity. This is the pillar where Miami speaks for itself.

CHRIS D'ELIA: I don't know. I will say I haven't cheated on her yet in the show.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Do you have any memorable moments from the show?

CHRIS D'ELIA: When she couldn't open the door in the pilot — that was hilarious. Let me just say I have known Whitney for five years and I've never seen her dressed up in any kind of sexy nurse outfit, and it was funny to watch her trying to seduce me as the character. And there was a moment where she was very sexy trying to open up the door to come in the room and she couldn't open up the door. It was the least sexy sexy thing I've ever seen in my life.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: Do you think that the men will relate to this more?

CHRIS D'ELIA: Guys can identify with it more, yes. The guy is always — oh, what am I going to do to please my wife. Hopefully guys will watch it. I like it.

PREMIER GUIDE MIAMI: What have you discovered about Whitney?

CHRIS D'ELIA: She is not as tough as she thinks she is.
