BLUR is an XR theater experience — live performance, motion capture, virtual reality, and augmented reality — that was named an Official Selection of Venice Immersive at the Venice International Film Festival, presented by La Biennale di Venezia. Venice Immersive is the most prestigious platform for immersive work in the world. BLUR's U.S. premiere is at MAD Arts in Dania Beach, which is approximately 20 minutes from Miami. It opened November 9 and runs through January 4.
The production is 45 minutes. Small groups. Actor-led. The premise: a near future where cloning, genetic engineering, and de-extinction are reality. The question the work asks: what if we could defeat death? Audiences journey through visions of resurrection before confronting an uncanny reflection of themselves. Venice described it as 'both a cautionary tale and a meditation on fragile humanity: a boundary-pushing experience that challenges perception while grounded in universal emotions.'
Why This Matters for Miami
Miami has been building an identity as a destination for immersive and experiential art — Art Basel, the satellite fairs, the installations that appear during Art Week. BLUR is the most ambitious immersive work to open in South Florida this year, and it is not in Miami. It is in Dania Beach, at MAD Arts, which is the venue that has been quietly building the most interesting immersive programming in the region.
The work had its world premiere at Taiwan's National Theater before Venice. The U.S. premiere is here. That is a sentence that most people in Miami have not read yet.
MAD Arts is in Dania Beach. Tickets start at $49.99 per person and are available at yeswearemadarts.com. BLUR runs through January 4, 2027.
