Miami-Dade County's Department of Environmental Resources Management is now accepting submissions for the Baynanza 2027 Art Contests, and the timing carries some weight: this year marks 45 years of Baynanza, the county's signature community cleanup tradition that has been protecting Biscayne Bay since 1982.

The contests are open to K-12 students and amateur photographers of all ages. The prompt is simple and personal: what does Biscayne Bay mean to you? Winning designs will be used on T-shirts, posters, stickers, and other materials handed out at Baynanza Cleanup Day, expected to take place April 10, 2027, when thousands of volunteers spread across more than 30 sites throughout the county to pull trash and debris from the bay's shores and waterways.

The contests are organized by age group. Elementary school students compete in the Sticker Contest. Middle schoolers enter the Poster Contest. High school students submit for the T-shirt Contest. The Amateur Photography Contest is open to residents of all ages. Finalists in each category receive tickets to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, which is organizing the contests in partnership with DERM.

The submission deadline is Friday, December 4, 2026. All winners will be announced at the Baynanza Kickoff early in the new year. For more information or to submit, email Baynanza@miamidade.gov.
