YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED to the 6th Annual Belize International Film Festival [BIFF], scheduled for July 15th to July 19th, 2011 in the beautiful, unspoiled country of Belize, in Central America. Join us in July for five glamorous days of Fun, Fantasy & Film, staged in Mother Nature’s Best Kept Secret…as Belize Rolls out the Red Carpet for the International Filmmakers and Films from around the globe.
Since BIFF’s inception in 2003, there has been visible and substantial growth within the AV sector in the Caribbean as well as Belize. Locally, two audiovisual organizations have come into being: the Belize Audiovisual Industry Association (BAVIA) and the Global Parish Project (GPP) and a burst of interest in the production, showcasing and distribution of films from the Caribbean AV sector has followed the declaration by CARICOM of Film, as a highly potential tool for marketing and income for different Caribbean countries. We are extremely proud to say that the Belize International Film Festival currently provides that cultural forum for the exhibition, training and discussion of wonderful and amazing films from all over the world.
After five years of striving to establish ourselves in the industry, however, BIFF is now poised for substantial growth. We have reinvented ourselves not only with a new look and tightened the Festival from ten to five days, intensifying the experience. We’ve also connected with new partners such as I-Rey Productions and one of Hollywood’s Premier Worldwide Talent Search Portals, Breakthrough Star (www.BreakthroughStar.com) whose support of the festival includes sponsoring an international comedy show the night before the festival kicks off, featuring comedians Gary Owens, Damon Williams, Rodney Perry & Tony Roberts.
We have also renewed our focus on stimulating productions from neighboring regions, such as the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and engaging in new relationships with Miami and Hollywood California via MDY Enterprises beginning with the support of the Miami-Dade Film and Entertainment Office, through a strategic partnership with the Director of Film Miami (www.FilmMiami.org ) Mr. Jeff Peel, who is also responsible for attracting Films such as Bad Boys and Pirates of the Caribbean to South Florida. Lastly, BIFF has also widened its scope and reach to include our youths with a High School Video Competition and training workshop.
The Festival’s official dates are July 15th to 19th with the Red Carpet OPENING NIGHT GALA taking place on Friday, July 15th but a number of preliminary activities make up our calendar. Keep checking www.belizefilmfestival.com for details.
