Vinny Buzzetta, The Cake Artist

Well the two most challenging cakes were for the Real Housewives of New Jersey for a photo shoot, and Angelina from the Jersey Shore. Those were pretty fun they were really elaborate.

Vinny Buzzetta‘s love for pastries inspired him to go to the French Culinary Institute of New York City where he became the youngest to complete the program and the top of his class. However,Vinny did not stop there he went on to open his own business where he works with family and friends. Currently he has landed his own reality show, Staten Island Cakes on WE TV where you get to see him exercise his creative skill while balancing family and business. Although this is never always a smooth road, Vinny is very excited to be able to do this show.

STATEN ISLAND CAKES, premiering Tuesday, June 21 at 9pm ET/PT with eight hour-long episodes on WE TV

At age 21 most young people are focused on school or just enjoying themselves. How did you manage to be running a business at 21?

Vinny Buzzetta: I really don’t know but it’s what I wanted to do. I knew that and I just went with it.

How did you get started in the cake making business?

Vinny Buzzetta: I always loved desserts and pastries. I went to culinary school for pastry and I just really liked cakes a lot, so I decided to go into the business. It’s just something that I wanted to do. I have a big interest in them.

Were you hesitant at all to do a TV show with your family?

Vinny Buzzetta: No not at all. I was really excited for it and I am really happy that we did it. I think that everything went over really well.

What is the most challenging thing working with family?

Vinny Buzzetta: It has its ups and its downs. From a positive standpoint they are always there for me and they always support me. Then the downfall is that sometimes they have too much to say. But you have to take the good with the bad and the good definitely outweighs the bad.

How did you land the show on WE TV?

Vinny Buzzetta: I was recommended for another show and I just kinda formed a relationship with Nancy Glass Productions and she wanted to do a show with me and that is kinda how it happened.

What is the most challenging cake you have had to make to date ?

Vinny Buzzetta: Well the two most challenging cakes were making one for the Real Housewives of New Jersey for a photo shoot. And I also made one for Angelina from the Jersey Shore. Those were pretty fun they were really elaborate.

You seem to get very nervous when you are under a lot of pressure but you somehow always pull it together at the end. How do you always manage to come through?

Vinny Buzzetta: I really don’t know but in the end somehow I always manage to get things to work out. I don’t know how it happens. I am freaking out the whole way through but in the end it definitely always manages to come together even if it’s at the last minute.

On the show you had a pretty bad hangover from celebrating your birthday. Anymore hangovers since then?

Vinny Buzzetta: I have had a few but not as nearly as bad as that one. That one was pretty bad.

Staten Island Cakes and Mob Wives are shows which are both filmed on Staten Island and are about Staten Islanders. How does it feel to be part of putting Staten Island on the forefront?

Vinny Buzzetta: I am very happy about it. I definitely think we have a lot to offer. We definitely offer a different perspective than Mob Wives or Jersey Shore, and I think we give it a better name.

Should we expect anything really dramatic on upcoming episodes?

Vinny Buzzetta: There are lots of things, like I said before we did a cake for Angelina from the Jersey Shore, we did a cake for Billy Elliot (Broadway show). We have done a lot of crazy things there is a lot of fun stuff to be seen.

Do you have a person in mind that you would love to do a cake for that you have not done yet?

Vinny Buzzetta: Not in particular but I would love to do some celebrity wedding that is definitely a goal of mine.

There are a lot of other cooking/ pastry shows both on WE TV and other networks like the Food Network. What makes Staten Island Cake unique?

Vinny Buzzetta: There are a lot of great shows out there but in my opinion none of those shows have my family. Not even just my family but everyone in my life. We are all really funny and a lot of those shows do not have the people I have, so definitely the people in my life.

I know it’s a bit early but should we expect you for another season?

Vinny Buzzetta: Hopefully fingers crossed that we get another one.

Spread the love!
