UM Ring Theatre and Tectonic Theater Project Adapt Carmen with an Afro-Cuban Twist

The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre of the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences presents an innovative adaption of Georges Bizet’s world-famous opera, Carmen. Co-produced with New York’s Tectonic Theater Project, this classic tale of a naïve young man consumed by his passion for a spirited woman is set in Cuba in 1958. The music is infused with an Afro-Cuban twist, and the sets and costumes reflect this unique time and place in history.

Students and faculty from the UM Department of Theatre Arts will work collaboratively with professionals from Tectonic, both in front of and behind the curtain, to create a lively and captivating version of a time-honored production.
