Steve Martin and has always been “The Jerk” and now he will be so in South Florida.

According to his film monologue he was born to a poor black family and moved to the big city as a young man seeking fame and fortune. He discovered “pizza in a cup” and reveled in this own notoriety, sanctified by locating his name in the phone book. He went on to wear plaid suits and ride planes , trains and automobiles . He taught us that king Tut was no slouch at dancing and that Czechoslovak brothers got game like no Brickell or South Beach dude could ever have.

He was the first to do air quotes and if you could “excuse me” was surely one of the “craziest and wildest” guys to play the banjo. As one of the three amigos, he found companionship and a few off notes with Martin Shore.

Steve Martin was a man of the absurd; his comedy was visual but never lazy in its intellectual appeal. He reminded us of our incongruent world and the internal voices in all of us which discover the world in manner that is aside from reality. His comic prose was a finger poking fun at our arrogance , at our blustering egos and at our humanity which never says never even when we have “ one chance in a million “ to go out with the beautiful girl . It is not the odds of success by the prospect of it that we covet, because there is endless human potential. Mr. Martin taught us all that.

Steve was a cheerleader at Gardens Grove High School in Waco Texas . He got his start in show business doing magic tricks and juggling. In the end he manipulated and provided perspectives which only he could imagine. He made us laugh; he make us countlessly recite his quips and he taught us to walk like an Egyptian. He was a king maybe not tut, maybe even better.
