Three years after taking his talents to South Beach, LeBron James and the Miami Heat stand four wins away from winning back-to-back NBA Championships. Long gone are the days when LeBron was scrutinized for his inability to lead his team to an NBA championship. He has quieted naysayers on his handling of pressure during crucial moments, becoming one of the NBA’s premier closers. Who could argue with that? When in game one of the eastern conference finals, LeBron made a miraculous drive to the basket with only seconds left on the clock. LeBron received a inbounds pass and did not settle for a jump shot. He put his head down and beat elite defender Paul George for a lay-up, energizing the home crowd and leaving all of Indiana’s population utter disbelief. This is the LeBron James we know now, but even in his greatness, he could not accomplish this alone.

Although LeBron has eclipsed his teammates to become the “Big One,” the Heat’s success in the last series is, no doubt, due to the fact that the team as a whole has pulled together and managed to play an imposing game, suffocating opponents on the defensive end and sharing the ball on the attack, even when LeBron was on the bench. The rotations have allowed LeBron to catch his breath and recoup the energy needed to maximize his performance on the court. The Heat’s performance this season has given fans something to celebrate and Heat-haters more reasons to hate. In short, even Spurs fans are thrilled to match-up against the Heat in the winner-take-all best of seven series. the stakes could not be higher. Sports writers and experts have given the Heat a slight edge over the Spurs, concluding that they will win in seven or six games. With so many variables (i.e. injuries, individual match ups, limited player minutes, and 3 point sharp shooter efficiency) nobody can know for sure. But as a fan, it will be a privilege to watch. All that is left to do now is sit tight, make some popcorn, grab some beers, and enjoy the ride.
