The inaugural flight on the new 8,000 foot south runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on September 18 helped raise $11,000 for the United Way of Broward County. jetBlue Airways made the first inaugural arriving flight on the new runway.

Pictured here is Deputy Director of Broward County Aviation Department, Doug Webster and Kathleen Cannon, President & CEO of United Way of Broward County, who was a passenger on the inaugural flight. Each jetBlue Airways ticket was $100 and made available to the invitees of the Runway Opening Ceremony. 100% of the proceeds went directly to benefit United Way of Broward County’s many community programs.

The new south runway will allow the airport to have two commercial runways, minimizing delays and allowing for future growth.  In attendance at this significant event, hosted and planned by the Broward County Aviation Department, were Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief and the Board of Broward County Commissioners.
