Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Grieco Hosts Successful Beach Clean-Up

unspecifiedMiami Beach Commissioner Michael Grieco, in partnership with VolunteerCleanUp.org, Clean Up Miami Beach, and the Miami Beach Rotary Club, hosted a10-block beach, dune and jetty clean up earlier today. The event drew hundreds of volunteers from the community to help rid the beach of debris and litter left behind by Spring Break crowds.

“We want to thank all of the volunteers who dedicated their time to our city,” said Commissioner Grieco. “The beach is now litter-free and we intend to keep it that way.”

The itemscollected included beer bottles, soda cans, disposable cups, and cigarette butts, which are some of the major contributors of litter in Miami Beach.

The cleanup, which began at 10 a.m. and concluded later in the afternoon, comes on the heels of the city’s first comprehensive anti-litter campaign launch. This campaign is unique in that it makes a connection between keeping our city fit by exercising your common sense and tossing trash and recyclables in the right place.

During the event, Commissioner Grieco also introduced the City of Miami Beach’s new “Keep Miami Beach Clean” anti-litter superhero, Mr. MB Clean – the campaign logo come to life – whose mission is to teach others how to stay fit while putting their trash in the trash, and recycling their recyclables.
