GoldenEye: 26 New Beach Huts Opening April 1, 2016

unnamed-166Opening: GoldenEye in Oracabessa, Jamaica, once the home of Ian Fleming where he penned all 14 James Bond novels, will debut 26 Beach Huts April 1, 2016. Owned by Island Records founder, Chris Blackwell, the new Beach Huts will be freestanding one- and two-bedroom octagonal structures built at varying heights. Designed by Jamaican architect Ann Hodges, each unit will feature a private veranda, oversized louvered windows, and high ceiling eradicating the need for air conditioning. The layout for the Huts was conceived to blend the indoors and out; the sounds of the tropics with the feel of a hut on the beach. The expansion will also include a seaside bar and rooftop terrace, pool area, snorkeling cove and bay-side beach, grill shack and drink stand.

Design: Custom-designed Jamaican furniture and African fabrics will be featured in each of the rooms. Interior showers—designed as walk-in wet rooms—and bamboo-enclosed outdoor showers and tubs (available in some of the huts) will add a sensual vibe to the contemporary interior design by Marika Kessler.

Activities: The newly-built Beach Hut area will focus around Sha’been—a seafront bar with rooftop lounge, featuring light bites such as jerk chicken and pepper shrimp with warm garlic aioli sauce.  A game room and a freshwater pool are also being added. Steps away will be Snorkeler’s Cove, the spot where guests can swim out to the sea to explore GoldenEye’s coral reef and the Oracabessa Fish Sanctuary.

Rates: Bookings for the Beach Huts can be made now for travel beginning April 1, 2016. Rates start at $400 during low season, $600 during high season.
