Flamenco Festival Miami returns March 2-5, 2017

image004 The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly announces the 10th Anniversary of FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI. The annual festival, which has been enjoyed by more than 73,000 guests to date, returns March 2-5, 2017 to the Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall. FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI 2017 begins March 2 with STARS OF FLAMENCO, a virtuosic display of dance, tracing flamenco from its Gypsy roots to its modern iterations. The festival continues with JESÚS CARMONA, who has been lauded by The New York Times for the “brilliant incisiveness of his footwork,” leading his company in Impetus on March 4. The groundbreaking OLGA PERICET completes the festival on March 5 with her ode to feminine prowess,Pisadas. 

“Over the past 10 years, Spain’s most celebrated dancers, vocalists and musicians have performed in Flamenco Festival Miami, making it one of the most popular series at the Arsht Center. We are proud of the community enthusiasm and support of Spain’s most popular art form in Miami,” said Liz Wallace, Vice President, Programming at the Arsht Center.

Individual show tickets range from $35 – $100*

Save 15% with a Festival Package: Discounted three-show packages range from $99.25 – $265* per person.

 

A VIP Package is also available for $499 per person. The package includes a ticket to each show in a prime location, an invite to the red carpet reception, artist meet & greet** and a Flamenco Festival Miami 2016 commemorative poster and wine glass.

 

Arsht Center Culturist Members can purchase tickets in advance – beginning Monday, November 14. The general public can purchase tickets beginning Friday, November 18.

Directed by Manuel Liñán, Stars of Flamenco features an all-star ensemble of 14 spectacular flamenco artists led by the legendary gypsy dancer Juana Amaya who is celebrated throughout Spain for her mesmerizing performances of flamenco puro (pure). Joining her will be the fierce and charismatic dancer Olga Pericet; riveting performer Jesus Carmona; the dazzling young dancer Patricia Guerrero and the prodigious vocalist Rocío Marquez.

Returning to Miami following his critically-acclaimed debut in 2014, Jesús Carmona and his company of 11 dancers, musicians and vocalists perform an innovative and emotionally charged program created by Carmona. Titled Impetus (“bursting with energy”), the piece stars Carmona, who also choreographs and directs this powerful dance interpretation of the most famous scores from Spain’s beloved composers, including Albeniz, Riqueni and Escudero. A dance prodigy, Carmona began his career at age 7, has shared the stage with Spain’s most legendary dancers and was a principal dancer with the prestigious Ballet Nacional de España for three years before creating his own award-winning company.

 

COMPAÑÍA OLGA PERICET 

PISADAS

March 5, 2017 at 7 p.m.

“Fiery and technically accomplished” (The New Yorker), Olga Pericet breaks away from convention at every turn. Accompanied by her company of vocalists and musicians and special guest dancer Juan Carlos Lérida, Pericet creates a feminine universe in Pisadas with a visual and choreographic language that asserts her own personal journey. Pericet is known for her “stunning stage presence” and the “ferocious energy locked up in her sophisticated technique” (The Guardian). Her performance at the Arsht Center promises to be a celebration of feminine power where women are the threads that hold the show – and perhaps the universe – together.
