Known for his signature character, The Fresh Monkey, which he incorporates into most of his works, his semi-nude mural “Erin” and the subsequent series which it inspired, “The Sunbather”, Daniel Fila, also known as Krave, has opened a new project space in Little Havana’s emerging Arts District.

The new space will showcase Fila’s varied works, including illustrations, paintings, urban sculptures, and more. The stylishly minimalist space will highlight Fila’s works, as well as the works of artists he’ll collaborate with. The first collaboration with artist Raymond “Gems” Adrian, consists of works from his Surface Merchants collective.

Fila has had studio space in the Wynwood and nearby Miami Design District for ten years, most recently at the Bakehouse Art Complex, and his move represents his first foray out of the vicinity.

The name of the project space, aptly titled “El Fresco” (The Fresh), is the newest addition to Little Havana’s arts area, known as the 6th and 12th Arts District. Neighbors include art galleries, ceramic studios, indoor and outdoor exhibit spaces, a Hispanic theater, cafes and restaurants.

“It has always been a dream of mine to have a larger area that would showcase a variety of works.  When we found this great space, as a Miami native, it felt like coming home. I believe that Little Havana is the next artists’ colony, and I knew the time was right to go forward,” stated Daniel Fila.

Fila’s mission is to create a venue for artists, art aficionados, and collectors that will help bring together differing artists’ communities.

“El Fresco” will hold a launch event on Friday, February 22, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. during Little Havana’s Art Walk.
