Women are often focused on their flaws rather than that one feature that enhances their beauty. Carmindy Bowyer, simply known as Carmindy on TLC’s Network, “What Not To Wear,” has been empowering women all over the world through her books. She teaches women to embrace their natural beauty, and how to enhance their beauty through make up.
Carmindy was recently in Miami promoting her newest book Crazy Busy Beautiful: Beauty Secrets for Getting Gorgeous Fast, a make up tip book filled with money saving tips and home remedies. Crazy Busy Beautiful is everything she knows about make up along with tips from friends and family members-sharing the sisterhood of beauty.
In addition, she was recently given free reign by Sally Hansen to create a make up line, Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy. The Natural Beauty product line is also available at CVS.com, Rite-Aid.com and Drugstore.com.
Premier Guide Miami caught up with Carmindy on her recent trip to Miami.
PGM: Is it really that hard to feel beautiful?
Carmindy: Absolutely! Not that hard. It is harder for you make over your mind than it is to make up your face. That is the tough part. That is why I try to teach women, both on “What Not To Wear” and in my book “Crazy Busy Beautiful: Beauty Secrets for Getting Gorgeous Fast” how to make up the way you think about yourself. Make up your mind first, and then, make up can be very easy, and it’s a great way to actually look beautiful.
PGM: You obviously know your products and techniques very well. How long have you been doing make up?
Carmindy: I have been doing make up for 20 years.
PGM: Before I was born….
Carmindy: (she laughs) I started at 19; I just turned 39…..
PGM: Happy belated birthday.
PGM: Women are obsessed with age defying products, and looking younger. What is your best advice or secret?
Carmindy: Unfortunately, yes. You know what? Prevention is the solution, and if you use sunscreen especially in Miami…I mean, having a house down here and coming down here all the time, I stay as white and pale as I can. I recommend that all women of all skin tone to use their sunscreen religiously. If not they are going to age quicker, it’s a higher chance of skin cancer. What women don’t realize is that actually, olive skin and darker skin have a higher chance of skin cancer than lighter skin people.
PGM: What is the quickest way for a Crazy Busy Beautiful woman to be beautiful?
Carmindy: My 5 Minute Face technique is the right way to go and you can save the other 5 minutes for sipping tea and taking a moment to visualize the great day ahead.
Blend on foundation all over face including eye lids with a non-latex sponge
Dab on concealer under eyes
Tap on cream highlighter under the brows, on the inside corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones
Sweep a light dusting of powder all over face including eye lids (but avoiding top of the cheekbones and under the brow bone)
Apply eyeliner on the upper lash line only
Sweep on mascara on the upper lash line only
Apply powder blush to the apples of the cheeks
Finish with a quick swipe of lip color.
