Artist Miguel Paredes donates mural to Art Deco Welcome Center and receives a proclamation

On Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m., Miami-based pop and multi-media artist, sculptor and urban realist, Miguel Paredes, will present his latest piece of artwork at the Miami Design Preservation League’s new Art Deco Welcome Center located on 10th and Ocean Drive in South Beach. Paredes is donating a 144 ft. by 104.5 ft. mosaic mural entitled “The New Yorker/Senator” commemorating the New Yorker and Senator Hotels, two fallen iconic Art Deco buildings unfortunately not saved despite of the heroic preservation efforts of MDPL and their founder Barbara Baer Capitman. The Welcome Center will also host a pop-up gallery featuring the artist’s previous collections and never-before-seen Art Deco inspired works through Monday, March 7.

Paredes will unveil “The New Yorker/Senator” at 8 p.m. and receive a proclamation from Miami Beach Mayor, Matti Herrera Bower, honoring the artist’s donation in support of historic preservation, his devotion to the city and positive impact on the community.

“Miguel is an incredible artist with an urban pop style that perfectly captures the spirit of Art Deco in its heyday. Having him bring two lost icons such as the New Yorker and Senator Hotels back to life for a new generation is a fitting tribute to Miami Beach’s design history,” says Bower.

Guests will enjoy complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Bombay Sapphire, Bacardi USA, Heineken, Caffe Milano, Pelican Café and sweets by Cupcakes by Hilda. RSVP to rsvp@miguelparedes.com is mandatory.
