At the event, Tomas Loewy showcased 15 pieces that he personally captured at Burning Man, an annual gathering that takes place at Black Rock City—a temporary community erected in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.  Lowey is a Miami based photographer that has attended Burning Man for the past 8 years.  He has published a book of images that he has taken exclusively at Burning Man, and is planning to create a full length, non-verbal feature film.

TaawaTaaqa: Radical Burning Desert is a visual essay of sorts, Loewy says: “An image-filled meditation on the elements of Burning Man, showcasing the spirit of life in the unique universe that is Burning Man and how this inspires the lives of burners and wanna-be-burners.”  The film will include chapters, themes, and a musical score — but no dialogue. It’s all in the tradition of other experimental, non-verbal films such as Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka, and Samsara.

“My challenge is always to find the impactful and the unusual point of view; it is not to photograph straightforward but to look from above, from the sides,” said Burning Man artist, Tomas Loewy.
