Area 31 Features Fish + Wine During Food Network Wine & Food Festival

fishMiami’s Area 31 at Kimpton’s EPIC Hotel, featured as one of the “Six Reasons for Food Lovers to Visit Miami” in the January 3 edition of The New York Times Travel section, is hosting its inaugural “Fish + Wine” dinner on Thursday, February 25 during the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival. Hosted by Executive Chef John Critchley and Master Sommelier Emily Wines, the four-course dinner will feature fresh-caught, sustainable seafood paired with boutique wines and will benefit the Marine Mammal Conservancy. Ingredients will be sourced from the waters of the UN designated Area 31 fishing region along with local farms such as Paradise Farms in Homestead, FL and Swank Farms in Loxahatchee, FL.

The “Fish + Wine” experience will begin with a welcome reception at 7 pm featuring exhibition stations of paella, crudos and cured fish paired with boutique selections of beer, sake and cocktails. Guests will be seated at 8:30 pm for a four-course “duet” menu and wine pairings. Each course will feature a “duet” of dishes, showcasing two tasting dishes complemented with the same wine. For example, one course will feature Seared Key West Yellowtail Snapper (with salsa verde and chestnut puree) and House Smoked Local Kingfish Croquettes (with avocado cream), paired with a boutique Chardonnay. The dinner will serve as a delicious education on Area 31’s locally caught fish as Emily Wines will offer explanations and tips from her “duet” pairings of all eight tastings. Price is $175++ per person. Seating is limited to 150 people.

For guests interested in the dinner menu’s fish selection, a VIP experience is available for a maximum of 16 people that includes a boat excursion and lunch. Guests will board a private charter with Executive Chef John Critchley and will be treated to a tour of Miami’s finest fishing markets as well as tips on picking premium fish to be featured in the pairing dinner. VIP attendees will be treated to an exclusive area during the dinner’s cocktail reception that will include Champagne, caviar and a high-end action station. VIP experience is $275++ per person including dinner. For more information and reservations, please call 305.424.5234 or visit www.area31restaurant.com.
